Knowing where her passion lay she went on to study Landscape Architecture at Hammersmith Polytechnic (now a part of Greenwich University) and graduated in 1980. Putting aside a corporate career Sarah settled for self employment, working with other professionals in her spare time for the experience and knowledge.
Although working in Devon for many years Sarah moved to Hampshire in 1990 and has continued to base herself there ever since. Sarah spent some 8 years as design Director at Hillier Landscapes, of which she is still a share holder, but has now returned to freelance work in order to concentrate on what she likes best…personal attention to her schemes and a hands on artisan approach.
Sarah has been involved in the design and construction of show gardens since 1990. Currently she holds 8 RHS Gold Medals, Best in Show at Hampton Court and Chelsea, two George Cooke Medals for Design Innovation plus a scattering of Civic and other Design awards. Last year Sarah not only won Best in Show at Chelsea but also received the huge honour of an Honorary PHD in Design from Greenwich University and also took the British
Association of Landscape Industries Grand Award. Sarah’s design is the first private garden to receive this accolade in over ten years and beat all entries including International and Commercial schemes.
Sarah has just returned form New Zealand where she designed and constructed a special show feature for the Ellerslie International Flower Show.
